Omaha Street Project to Begin This Spring

RAPID CITY, S.D. March 6, 2020 – The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) will reconstruct Omaha Street from Deadwood Avenue to 12th Street over the next three years. This year, the reconstruction will occur between 12th Street and the entrance to the soccer fields just west of Cross Street. This is anticipated to begin in April 2020. In April 2021, the reconstruction will occur between the soccer field entrance and just west of Deadwood Avenue. The third year will consist of work to complete the project by the May 27, 2022 completion date. SDDOT has awarded the $13.7 million project to Heavy Constructors, Inc. of Rapid City, SD.
With the anticipated increase in traffic at the intersection of Main Street and Jackson Boulevard due to the reconstruction of Omaha Street, the City of Rapid City has contracted with Ainsworth Benning to complete surfacing repair work at the intersection of Main Street and Jackson Boulevard. The repair work at this intersection is expected to be completed by June 20, 2020, and motorists can expect lane closures during this timeframe.
Motorists should be prepared for delays, suddenly slowing, stopped, and merging traffic, as well as construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lane.
