RAPID CITY, S.D. – Thursday, July 30 – Work this week includes placing curb and gutter and driving lane tie-ins as well as sawing and sealing pavement joints on Omaha Street at the east end of the project. The east entrance into the Founders Park parking lot is currently closed due to surfacing work. The west entrance is open. It is anticipated that the east entrance will be opened on Monday, August 3, and the west entrance will be closed for construction. The westbound lanes from 12th Street/Founder’s Park Drive to Cross Street are closed and two-way traffic is in the eastbound lanes. There is a 10-foot width restriction though the construction work zone.
Work has begun on Deadwood Avenue. The southbound driving lane is closed as crews work to install storm sewer and city utilities prior to widening and paving the southbound lane between Cement Plant Road and Krebs Drive.
Business access on Omaha Street will remain open at all times. Access to Founders Park will be limited to a single approach. Left-hand turns onto Omaha Street are discouraged to allow for continued flow of traffic. Motorists are asked to be aware of suddenly slowing and merging traffic, changing work zone locations, reduced speeds through the work zone, and construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lane.
Weekly progress meetings will be held Wednesdays; however, project facilities will be closed to the public. For questions, the public may call (605) 343-3311 and leave a message or firstname.lastname@example.org. Additional information will be provided as phasing, access, and traffic control changes with the progression of the project.
