RAPID CITY, S.D. – September 17 – The temporary traffic weave between Canal Street and Oshkosh Street is in place and is anticipated to be there for two more weeks. The intersection of Omaha Street and Oshkosh Street is closed. The eastbound lanes from Oshkosh Street to 12th Street are closed, and two-way traffic is in the westbound lanes. Access to Oshkosh Street is from Canal Street. Access to the Omaha Street Plaza is from 12th Street. Removals are in progress on the south side of the project from 12th Street to Oshkosh Street.
The temporary traffic weave is anticipated to be removed September 28. At that time two-way traffic, from the west end of construction to 12th Street, will be in the westbound lanes.
A single lane closure on West Main Street is anticipated Monday, September 21, from Mountain View Road west to the Rapid Creek Bridge. This lane closure will be removed at the end of each workday and is anticipated to have a duration of two weeks.
Water and storm sewer installation and private utility relocation continues in the Deadwood Avenue southbound driving lane. Grading, widening, and paving the southbound lane of Deadwood Avenue, between Cement Plant Road and Krebs Drive, will follow the water and storm sewer installation. There is a 10-foot width restriction though the construction work zone. Business access on Omaha Street will remain open at all times. Access to Founders Park is limited to a single approach. Left-hand turns onto Omaha Street are discouraged to allow for continued flow of traffic. Motorists are asked to be aware of suddenly slowing and merging traffic, changing work zone locations, reduced speeds through the work zone, and construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lane.
