RAPID CITY, S.D. – September 24 – The temporary traffic weave between Canal Street and Oshkosh Street will remain in place through the end of this week. Access to Oshkosh Street is from Canal Street. Access to the Omaha Street Plaza is from 12th Street. Work in this area includes grading, laying gravel cushion material, and work on the west approach to the Omaha Street Plaza.
The temporary traffic weave is anticipated to be removed September 28. At that time two-way traffic, from the west end of construction to 12th Street, will be in the westbound lanes.
The single westbound lane closure on West Main Street is anticipated to be extended eastward to the intersection of Mountain View road on September 30. This lane closure will continue to be removed at the end of each workday and is anticipated to have a duration of one week, when the closure will be reduced to its current limits while work continues on the sidewalk connection to the bike path near Med 5 Federal Credit Union.
Traffic has been reduced to two lanes on Deadwood Avenue between Cement Plant Road and Krebs Drive. Private utility relocation and water and storm sewer installation continue. Grading, widening, and paving the southbound lane of Deadwood Avenue, between Cement Plant Road and Krebs Drive, will follow the water and storm sewer installation. There is a 10-foot width restriction though the construction work zone. Business access on Omaha Street will remain open at all times. Left-hand turns onto Omaha Street are discouraged to allow for continued flow of traffic. Motorists are asked to be aware of suddenly slowing and merging traffic, changing work zone locations, reduced speeds through the work zone, and construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lane.
