RAPID CITY, S.D. – October 1 – Two-way traffic is in the westbound lanes of Omaha Street from the west end of construction to 12th Street. Access to Oshkosh Street and Cross Street is from Canal Street. Access to the Omaha Street Plaza is from 12th Street. Work in this area includes grading, laying gravel cushion material, and work on the west approach to the Omaha Street Plaza. Removals are complete on the south side of the project limits. The first concrete paving in eastbound lanes is anticipated the week of October 12th beginning at Canal Street moving east.
The single westbound lane closure on West Main Street is in place, extending from the intersection of Mountain View Road to the Rapid Creek Bridge. This lane closure will be removed at the end of each workday and is anticipated to be in place through October 6.
Traffic has been reduced to two lanes on Deadwood Avenue between Cement Plant Road and Krebs Drive. Private utility relocation and storm sewer installation continue. Grading, widening, and paving the southbound lane of Deadwood Avenue, between Cement Plant Road and Krebs Drive, will follow the water and storm sewer installation. There is a 10-foot width restriction though the construction work zone. Business access on Omaha Street will remain open at all times. Left-hand turns onto Omaha Street are discouraged to allow for continued flow of traffic. Motorists are asked to be aware of suddenly slowing and merging traffic, changing work zone locations, reduced speeds through the work zone, and construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lane.
