Project Update 2020-12-30

RAPID CITY, S.D. – December 30 – Work this week includes backfilling and topsoil placement along curb and sidewalks, lighting work in the median and at the intersection of Cross Street, and landscape work near the soccer fields. Surfacing work continues at the Canal Street intersection. Canal Street remains closed at Omaha Street. Access to Canal Street is from Oshkosh Street or Cross Street. Access to the Omaha Street Plaza is from 12th Street. The west entrance into Founders Park is open and the east approach to Founders Park is closed.

A change in traffic is anticipated mid-January. At that time traffic will be in two eastbound lanes and two westbound lanes from 12th Street to Cross Street. The inside lane will be closed for work in the median.

The southbound outside lane on Deadwood Avenue, between Cement Plant Road and Krebs Drive is closed. Sidewalk work continues on Deadwood Avenue this week.

There is a 10-foot width restriction though the construction work zone. Business access on Omaha Street will remain open at all times. Left-hand turns onto Omaha Street are discouraged to allow for continued flow of traffic. Motorists are asked to be aware of suddenly slowing and merging traffic, changing work zone locations, reduced speeds through the work zone, and construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lane.
