RAPID CITY, S.D. – March 17, 2021 – Work on the Omaha Street reconstruction project has been delayed this week due to weather. The traffic changes which were anticipated at the beginning of this week are now anticipated to occur on March 19 and March 20, 2021. Traffic on Omaha Street from the soccer field entrance to Deadwood Avenue will be placed in a two-way configuration in the eastbound lanes to accommodate removals and grading in the westbound lanes. Additionally, on Deadwood Avenue traffic between Cement Plant Road and West Omaha Street will be placed in the southbound lanes to accommodate removals and grading work in the northbound lanes at the Omaha Street intersection. Sanitary sewer work behind the curb on the north side of the Mountain View Road intersection is anticipated to begin next week as well.
Also, beginning Monday, March 22, 2021, westbound traffic on Omaha Street, from 12th Street to the soccer field entrance, will be in the outside lane. Eastbound traffic will be in the middle and outside lanes as the inside lane will be closed. The lane closures in this stretch are necessary for work to occur in the median which includes the installation of decorative concrete, landscaping, and a pedestrian crossing at Canal Street.
Motorists are asked to be aware of suddenly slowing and merging traffic, changing work zone locations, reduced speeds through the work zone, and construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lanes.
Additional information will be provided as phasing, access, and traffic control changes with the progression of the project.
