RAPID CITY, S.D. – The bike path north of Omaha Street, which travels under the Rapid Creek bridge, will be temporarily closed beginning the week of May 24, 2021, to allow construction crews to work on the bridge over Rapid Creek. A bike path detour will be designated from Founder’s Park going south, across Omaha Street at the newly signalized Cross Street intersection to the sidewalk on the south side of Omaha Street. The bike path detour will then follow that sidewalk west to Mountain View Road, then south to West Main Street and cross at the intersection of Mountain View Road and West Main Street, from there following the sidewalk to the west side of Rapid Creek where it will meet up with the existing bike path near the Med 5 Credit Union. The closure is anticipated through October 2021. Maps of the detour route will be posted near the closures and are available on the project website.
Access to the Bike Skills Park will be from the bike path north of Omaha Street.
Motorists are asked to be aware of suddenly slowing and merging traffic, changing work zone locations, reduced speeds through the work zone, and construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lanes.
Additional information will be provided as phasing, access, and traffic control changes with the progression of the project.
