RAPID CITY, S.D. – May 26, 2021 – Deck work continues this week on the Rapid Creek Bridge. A new water diversion is being installed today on the west side of Rapid Creek. The bike path that travels under the Rapid Creek Bridge will be closed through October 2021. The bike path detour goes south from Founder’s Park at Cross Street, west to Mountain View Road, south to West Main Street and west to Rapid Creek where it connects with the existing bike path near the Med5 Credit Union. Maps of the detour route are posted at both ends of the closure and are available on the project website.
Pavement markings are being installed this week on Omaha Street between the soccer field entrance and 12th Street. Median landscaping is complete, and sod will be placed near Founder’s Park next week.
Work continues on grading and storm sewer on the north side of Omaha Street from the soccer fields west to Deadwood Avenue. Storm sewer installation west of Deadwood Avenue will start this week. Concrete paving started this week between Deadwood Avenue and the Rapid Creek Bridge.
Motorists are asked to be aware of suddenly slowing and merging traffic, changing work zone locations, reduced speeds through the work zone, and construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lanes.
Additional information will be provided as phasing, access, and traffic control changes with the progression of the project.
