Project Update 2021-09-29

RAPID CITY, S.D. – September 29, 2021 – Finish Grading on the south side of Omaha Street east of Mountain View Road is in progress with paving to follow. The soccer field entrance will be closed from September 30th  through October 4th.

Water and storm sewer installation will continue on Mountain View Road with grading to follow.

Paving tie ins and approach slabs will be placed adjacent to the Rapid Creek Bridge. A water diversion is installed on the west side of Rapid Creek. The bike path that travels under the Rapid Creek Bridge is currently closed and is anticipated to remain closed through October 2021.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation advises that bicyclists and pedestrians find an alternate route when traveling on the bike path near the Rapid Creek Bridge on Omaha Street in Rapid City. A detour from Founder’s Park at Cross Street, west to Mountain View Road, south to West Main Street and west to Rapid Creek is available but is not recommended for recreational use. Travel on this detour route provides a means to traverse the bike path through the work zone but is not intended for recreational use or consistent thru traffic. Those using the bike path for recreation are encouraged to discover, explore, and enjoy the path outside of the work zone of the project. Maps of the detour route are posted at both ends of the closure and are available on the project website.

Motorists are asked to be aware of suddenly slowing and merging traffic, changing work zone locations, reduced speeds through the work zone, and construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lanes.

Additional information will be provided as phasing, access, and traffic control changes with the progression of the project.
