Project Update 2021-10-27

RAPID CITY, S.D. – October 27, 2021 – A switch in traffic is planned for November 1st. Traffic will be in the new westbound lanes between Cross Street and Scheffer Street.

Concrete paving on the south side of Omaha Street east of Mountain View Road continues. Finish grading with gravel placement and pavement preparation also continues on the west side of Mountain View Road.

A water diversion is installed on the west side of Rapid Creek. The diversion is anticipated to be relocated for substructure work by October 29th. Bridge widening work continues on the south side. The bike path that travels under the Rapid Creek Bridge is currently closed and is anticipated to remain closed through November 2021.

Miscellaneous concrete work and clean up continues on the north side of Omaha Street and Deadwood Avenue.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation advises that bicyclists and pedestrians find an alternate route when traveling on the bike path near the Rapid Creek Bridge on Omaha Street in Rapid City. A detour from Founder’s Park at Cross Street, west to Mountain View Road, south to West Main Street and west to Rapid Creek is available but is not recommended for recreational use. Travel on this detour route provides a means to traverse the bike path through the work zone but is not intended for recreational use or consistent thru traffic. Those using the bike path for recreation are encouraged to discover, explore, and enjoy the path outside of the work zone of the project. Maps of the detour route are posted at both ends of the closure and are available on the project website.

Motorists are asked to be aware of suddenly slowing and merging traffic, changing work zone locations, reduced speeds through the work zone, and construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lanes.
