Project Update 2021-11-10

RAPID CITY, S.D. – November 10, 2021 – Through traffic is in the new westbound lanes between Cross Street and Scheffer Street.

Access to the Bike Skills Park is currently closed.  Access is anticipated to be restored early next week.

Sidewalk construction, miscellaneous concrete work and cleanup continues on the north side of Omaha Street.  Road grading, undercutting and storm sewer installation continues on the south side of Omaha Street west of Rapid Creek.  Utility work, grading and gravel placement in preparation for paving continues between Rapid Creek and Mountain View Road. Concrete paving continues east of Mountain View Road on the south side of Omaha Street.

Work continues on the south side of the Rapid Creek bridge including widening, deck repairs and overlay. The bike path that travels under the Rapid Creek Bridge is currently closed and is anticipated to remain closed through December 2021.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation advises that bicyclists and pedestrians find an alternate route when traveling on the bike path near the Rapid Creek Bridge on Omaha Street in Rapid City. A detour from Founder’s Park at Cross Street, west to Mountain View Road, south to West Main Street and west to Rapid Creek is available but is not recommended for recreational use. Travel on this detour route provides a means to traverse the bike path through the work zone but is not intended for recreational use or consistent thru traffic. Those using the bike path for recreation are encouraged to discover, explore, and enjoy the path outside of the work zone of the project. Maps of the detour route are posted at both ends of the closure and are available on the project website.

Motorists are asked to be aware of suddenly slowing and merging traffic, changing work zone locations, reduced speeds through the work zone, and construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lanes.
