Project Update 2021-12-17

RAPID CITY, S.D. – December 17, 2021 – Traffic is anticipated to switch to the west side of Mountain View Road next week.

Miscellaneous work and cleanup will continue on the north side of Omaha Street. Water main installation is completed in the south leg of the Deadwood Avenue intersection. Concrete paving in the eastbound lanes between Deadwood Avenue and the bridge over Rapid Creek is scheduled for the week of December 20th. The soccer field entrance will be reconstructed in the coming weeks. When the soccer field entrance is being reconstructed the bike path will be routed around the work area.

Work continues on the widening of the Rapid Creek bridge toward the south. The bike path that travels under the Rapid Creek Bridge is currently closed and is anticipated to remain closed through January 2022.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation advises that bicyclists and pedestrians find an alternate route when traveling on the bike path near the Rapid Creek Bridge on Omaha Street in Rapid City. A detour from Founder’s Park at Cross Street, west to Mountain View Road, south to West Main Street and west to Rapid Creek is available but is not recommended for recreational use. Travel on this detour route provides a means to traverse the bike path through the work zone but is not intended for recreational use or consistent thru traffic. Those using the bike path for recreation are encouraged to discover, explore, and enjoy the path outside of the work zone of the project. Maps of the detour route are posted at both ends of the closure and are available on the project website.

Motorists are asked to be aware of suddenly slowing and merging traffic, changing work zone locations, reduced speeds through the work zone, and construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lanes.
